Currency or commodity – how do we approach the shapeshifter that is crypto?

How should we be viewing crypto? Its volatility has shocked even the most knowledgeable of experts, and the ‘currency vs asset class’ debate rages on with no definitive answer. In only three years, the Ethereum blockchain and its native token, Ether, have not only made a few early adopters very rich, but whole businesses have been built on the ecosystem. Now, with the SEC announcing this is a security, and with regulatory oversight in the US on the horizon, what does this mean for the community? Will the rest of the world follow the US down the regulatory path, if not what does that mean for a borderless instrument? But why should cryptoassets be classed the same way, just because their means of transport uses the same features? We differentiate between a piece of music and a photograph transmitted digitally. It’s high time we started looking at these assets for what they are, and not get starry eyed over blockchain. Join our panel of certified crypto experts as they discuss, debate and de-mystify the classification of bitcoin and its cohorts.
