Many banks are trying to innovate on top of their old legacy systems – for example by creating new, shiny interfaces without facing and fixing the underlying problems. This certainly is not the only way for incumbents to innovate, which instead can leave the old systems as they are and directly jump to building own digital challenger banks outside of their old organisation.
