Banking as a service: What does the bank of the future look like?
If recent trends are any indication, the bank of the future will be less "payments" centric and more services centric. What exactly do these services look like for the banking customer of the future, the banking employee of the future and the bank of the future? Is the Chinese path (WeChat, AliPay) the path European and US financial services will follow thereby disintermediating banks? Or will western banks invent the bank of the future on their own terms? We will explore these themes and try to reconcile technology advances, business models, consumer expectations and the harsh reality of the "digital world meets banking services" in this panel

Developing the global Open Banking standard
Despite being a global phenomenon, Open Banking is at different stages of the 'disruption cycle' in different markets. This session will share best practise findings from across markets and explore the initiatives set in motion to converge on a global standard. The fundamental building blocks of Open Banking all connect to the liability model, so how do we reduce risk, cost and complexity during implementation? Would a failure to impose standards lead to a frustration of the market facing objectives of PSD2? Does the market want to risk PSD3 imposing technology standards? How will the EU collaborate with other markets?

Are banks doomed to become the back end of financial services? Despite the profusion of upstarts acquiring banking licences, do the FinTechs and Tech Titans really want to become banks? Most challenger banks will fail - the only ones that will succeed are those that are fully licensed themselves and have built their own tech stack from scratch as this means they can compete on cost and there aren't middlemen taking margin

How FinTechs have rebuilt the four foundations of banking
A modern bank is a devilishly simple concept made devilishly complex. Commercial banking as we know it sits on heretofore unquestioned foundations. Many banks are trying to innovate on top of their old legacy systems – for example by creating new, shiny interfaces without facing and fixing the underlying problems. This certainly is not the only way for incumbents to innovate, which instead can leave the old systems as they are and directly jump to building own digital challenger banks outside of their old organisation. The panellists all have built new digital banks for incumbents and will share and discuss their experiences.

Turning bank IT into a business model – a cultural transformation
There is an irreversible change happening in corporate banks. It produces new kinds of services for the customers and enables new ways of collaboration with fintechs, startups and any other players in the digital industry. Above all, it requires banks to open up. If you reduce this change solely to PSD2, you are going to miss its true potential. This change should not be driven by regulation but by opportunity. At Deutsche Bank, they took the chance. Initiated by the bank’s technology department, a small team started a cultural change when they began thinking IT from a customer perspective. That was the first step towards open banking and towards turning bank IT into a business model. In this session, the Deutsche Bank API team wants to share its learnings, its vision and its point of view on open banking.

How can banks safely share and house datasets?
PSD2 and Open Banking in the UK have created significant opportunities for technological development and increased competition, and these opportunities rely on consumers being willing to share their financial data. However, it is important to recognise the risks that the sharing of financial data can create, as well as the opportunities. Recent high profile data breaches have highlighted the importance of strong data protection, and this is particularly relevant in the new Open Banking world where data sharing is becoming increasingly commonplace. Data sharing is an important facet of PSD2, but how can we ensure consumers are adequately protected as the landscape of financial services develops? And who are the true custodians of financial data?

Will there be a PSD3? What should we be lobbying for?
The PSD3 Panel returns! Last year at Money 20/20 Europe we had a panel discussion “PSD3 – this time we mean business”, where the viewpoints from different parts of industry addressed the question “is PSD2 not for commerce”. With 2018 is the year of PSD2 in motion, have the viewpoints from the industry changed compared to last year? What would be the new points of discussions for PSD2, and if we were going to build PSD3, what would be their wish list? We will touch upon various topics such as possible fragmentation of local legislations within EU member states and worldwide, GDPR impact, ‘Planet of the APIs’, etc. and will hear from the panelists regarding the effectiveness of the intent behind PSD2 from their perspective, with the objective of driving input to the industry as well as the legislators for future legislation around a rapidly developed technology/market.
