How Chinese and US platform providers are moving from their core business models into payments and financial services
Over the last few years, global ecommerce companies have aggregated millions of customers and are now complimenting their core business with payments and other banking services. China has become a leader in payments leveraging their online platforms with mobile payments but also additional services including P2P payments, lending, money market services, as well as wealth management products. The Chinese behemoths are now expanding their reach globally.  In the US, the story is similar, with the proliferation of Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Venmo offering cashless alternative payments and financial services to their customers.

First you get the platform, then you get the data, then you get the money
Business drives technology, right?  Well, seemingly not any longer. Several proven mega examples around the world are proving the exact opposite! Establishment of a technical foundation and marketplace platform which then gains true mass user acceptance and in turn creates an abundance of consumer data is proven and viable. With extensive use of AI / machine learning the data can be mined to identify completely new business offerings from deep data patterns; dynamically refined and retested. New business that is not just ‘evolutionary' but creating completely new business offerings and models. These data-loaded platforms exist and are rapidly empowering both business growth and new models, with trade barriers dropping further as markets expansion becomes easier. Combine the explosion of new world enablers including convergence of crypto and blockchain into the regulated mainstream, plus rapid marketplace platform partnering techniques, then you have a compelling formula to reach the tipping point and takeover of traditional markets owners, globally. The results are real, the end vision is clear, and the roadmap is rapidly being successfully executed.

Better payment flows on platforms: Booking.com and Stripe
Reducing friction for users is key to running a successful online business. This is particularly true for payments, which is too often still a long and cumbersome process for consumers. Companies with platform or marketplace business models have even more complex challenges when it comes to moving money between consumers and agents on the platform. Booking.com cooperated with Stripe to solve these challenges. Duco van Lanschot and Daniel Marovitz will have an on-stage conversation about how the two companies worked together to create payment flows that are beneficial for everyone involved, and give an overview of how they created an efficient, PSD2-compliant solution.

Big, small, structured and unstructured – ignore the data deluge at your peril!
The reality is that information technology is one of the largest revolutions in history. In a world of “convergence” in terms of technologies, industries etc., data is at the core of a digital society. With machines taking the lead in data processing, new questions arise. What´s the new value chain of data and analytics, and how can organizations prepare? Is AI going to change the decision making process? Opportunity or threat? What will be the impact of the increasing regulation? Should “data” become a second language for organizations? What´s behind data literacy? Throughout the session we will discuss how organizations are approaching this topic, we will hear from experts and explore different roadmaps to help banks define their own “data agenda”
