Petros Zerfos, Ph.D. is Research Manager of the Next Generation Applications group at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, leading a team of research staff members and senior software engineers on basic and applied research in machine learning applications and BigData systems. He received his PhD (2005) and MSc (2002) in Computer Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and his B.Eng. from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece in 1999. His research interests lie in the areas of BigData systems & applications, cloud system/service management, and applied machine learning, including analysis of time series and unstructured data. He has (co-) authored more than 50 papers published in top-tier technical journals and conferences and has been designated IBM Master Inventor, having filed more than 40 patents worldwide with 20 granted to date. Technology that he has developed with his team in the above areas has been transferred and commercialized in products by the IBM Watson & Cloud Platform, IBM Watson Financial Services, and other IBM business units. Recently, Dr. Zerfos and his team developed and commercialized regulatory compliance analytics technology that uses natural language processing and machine learning techniques to help automate the analysis of financial regulatory documents for compliance purposes.Biography coming soon
