Michael B. Gilroy is a technology venture capitalist with Canaan Partners based in Silicon Valley. He invests in companies across financial technology and enterprise software at the application layer. Canaan is a $5B AUM early stage venture firm that has invested in some of the world's leading technology companies over the past 30 years. Canaan's portfolio of entrepreneurial muscle includes 60 IPOs and 134 M&As, including recent fintech exits such as Lending Club and Cardlytics. Michael has been investing in and advising technology companies for over a decade. He is currently a board director for; ContentSquare (marketing automation), Hugo Insurance (non-standard auto insurance), Beam Solutions (AML / KYC compliance software), and Rocketrip (enterprise travel management software). Michael is currently a board observer for Bellhops (tech-enabled moving services) and was previously an observer for Arbor (marketplace for people-based data) prior to its acquisition by Acxiom. Michael is very passionate about building the fintech community and in 2015 started a bi-coastal quarterly series called 'FinTech Central'. In partnership with NASDAQ and Lending Club, FinTech Central draws over 150 attendees each quarter and has hosted executives as panelists from; Betterment, Plaid, Lending Club, Citi, Ripple, Coinbase, The SEC, Barclays, 500 Startups, TechStars, Tezos, Orchard, CircleUp, NASDAQ, and CommonBond. Michael studied Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. He's a very passionate alumnus having founded Berkeley Alumni of New York which serves as a conduit between alumni in New York and the on-campus Berkeley community. He received the 2017 Mark Bingham Award for Excellence in Achievement by Young Alumni.
